Issues involved in attempted rape [Mar. 18th, 2006|10:05 pm]
Writing Help

I have a character that I've been working with for quite a while, and I think I've written myself into a corner.

She's a transgender woman working as a police officer in 1870's Tokyo. (Yes, I do realize that she's one big anachronism, but I don't let it bother me.) She has a whole host of issues, including her obsession with strength, and the fairly recent death of her master, whom she was madly in love with. Another one is these issues is a period of time when she was twelve years old. Her parents were killed (there was a war going on), and she was forced to flee for her life. She hid in a forest, where, not surprisingly, she ran into bandits. She was nearly raped several times, and the first time was a very close call. She managed to kill her attackers, as she had some martial art training, but the scars are there all the same.

It wasn't until later that I realized that I don't know the specific issues that come from attempted rape. I imagine they would slightly differ from full blown sexual assault, but I'm smart enough to realize that there would a lot of trauma, I'm just not certain how it would specifically play out. I also realize that everyone will react differently, but any help would be good.

Thank you for any help you can give me, and I sincerely apologize if there's anything wrong with this post.

Wild-ass guess...

Not that I know, really, but I'd imagine you'd have a lot of the same kinds of issues, just toned down a bit.

Well, a bit to a lot, depending on her personality, and on how far the attackers got before she stopped 'em.
